On August 23, Sharon native son Bernie Dresel will perform as a very special guest with the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra. Bernie has occupied the challenging drum chair for the Grammy-nominated Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band since its inception in 1999, and for an overlapping 15 years (1992-2006), he was the drummer for the Grammy-winning Brian Setzer Orchestra. Modern Drummer magazine’s readers poll named him “Best Big Band Drummer” and Drum magazine has put him on their list of “53 Drummers Who Made a Difference in the ’90s” as well as honoring him with a Drummie for Best Big Band Drummer. You can see his mug and hear him in the just released movie “Jersey Boys”.
Bernie stays busy with his L.A. session work as a versatile drummer and percussionist. He has recorded/performed with hundreds of bands and performers including the Brian Setzer Orchestra, James Taylor, Maynard Ferguson James Brown, Frank Sinatra, Ringo Starr, B.B. King, Christine Aguilera and Stevie Wonder.
